Attività in corso - Unità di Torino

Politecnico di Torino (POLITO)

The research activity of the unit of Politecnico di Torino has been focused on algorithms and protocols supporting the archiving of information on storage devices in the internal and external network. The goals are: redundancy and content robustness; ease of retrieval; privacy; ease of dissemination. The placement of a content copy (e.g., pictures) depends on the nature of the object (or on user-defined “tags”), which might suggest that it be placed in the residential network only (for privacy reasons), or somewhere in the inter-residential network (for ease of distribution). The solutions under study are autonomic and distributed, and take into account the characteristics and capabilities of the devices, as well as their locations in the network. Content hit probability, load balancing, energy/bandwidth consumption are the metrics of interest. The performance of the developed solutions will be evaluated mainly through simulation in realistic environments. Additionally, PoliTO is studying protocols and techniques for secure localization of networks devices and sensors, in the residential and inter-residential context. The proposed solutions will be distributed and based on Time-of-Flight of message exchanges, as well as on multilateration techniques.
